Abstract:
The main features of Parkinson's disease are tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity and postural instability. Patients also often develop other symptoms such as depression, anxiety, reduced cognitive function, sleep disturbances and fatigue. Initially, patients are well treated with levodopa, but after five to seven years the effect wears off and they experience episodes of on-off phenomena and dyskinesia (involuntary movements).
