Abstract
Studies focusing on manipulation of growth conditions for duckweed Wolffia arrhiza to promote biomass for crop nutrient supply, are scarce. The effects of swine lagoon water (SLW) concentration and its replenishment and harvest regimes on selected properties of W. arrhiza were investigated. Dry matter and average growth rate of W. arrhiza were not affected by SLW replenishment periods, whereas the properties decreased with increasing concentration of SLW. The carbon and carbon/nitrogen content increased as the period between solution replenishment increased and as SLW concentration declined from 15 to 5%. Harvesting regimes did not affect the nitrogen content and uptake of duckweed, <inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="02066-ilm01.gif"/>, and mineral-N of SLW. Harvesting duckweed once per week resulted in higher growth rate and biomass, compared with twice a week. Findings from this study suggest that W. arrhiza cultured on 10% SLW and harvested once a week yields biomass with nitrogen content suitable for crop nutrient supply.

Abstract
BACKGROUND
To evaluate the mid term functional results of patients treated for RUF and to determine an optimal treatment strategy to improve their quality of life. Recto-urinary Fistula (RUF) is a rare complication following prostate cancer treatment, and can have a major impact on patients' quality of life. There is a lack of consensus concerning the best approach and different techniques have been proposed: endoscopic, transrectal, perineal and transperitoneal (open, laparoscopic or robotic).
METHODS
We retrospectively reviewed the charts of patients who underwent RUF repair from January 2001 to December 2010 at our Institute. 16 patients who developed RUF following prostate cancer treatment were included in the study. The fistula had to be confirmed both clinically and by imaging. All patients had follow up consultation every 3 month for the first year and then annually. They were asked to fill questionnaires evaluating functional outcomes. The International Continence Society (ICS) score was used to assess the postoperative urinary continence. Fecal continence was evaluated with the Wexner score and sexual function was assessed with the International Index for erectile function (IIEF-5) score.
RESULTS
Eighty-seven percent patients (14/16) in our series developed RUF as a consequence of prostate cancer surgery and 13% (2/16) postbrachytherapy (BT). All patients initially had a diversion colostomy and a supra pubic catheter. 69% (11/16) underwent primary YM repair and 73% (8/11) were successful. 2/3 primary failures were successfully retreated with graciloplasty. Primary gracilis flap interposition (GFI), on 3 non-irradiated patients were successful (100%). Primary GFI postbrachytherapy, no patient had recover urinary and digestive continuity. In total primary GIF was successful in 60% (3/5). Over all long term, success rate with a urinary and digestive continuity and without recurrence of the fistula was 81% (13/16). Mid term functional results were evaluated at mean follow up of 40 months (14-92). 13% (2/16) achieved complete urinary continence, 48% (7/16) required single pad, 25% (4/16) developed major incontinence, 7% (1/16) required urinary diversion and 13% (2/16) developed complete urethral closure post BT requiring permanent suprapubic catheterization. Colostomy was reversed in 93% (15/16) cases. 75% (12/16) achieved complete faecal continence, minor incontinence (wexner score 3-4) was seen in 13% (2/16) and major incontinence (wexner score 14) in 7% (1/16) and 7% (1/16) required a long term colostomy. 19% (3/16) developed colostomy related complications. Only 13% (2/16) achieved adequate erections with the use of intra cavernosal prostaglandin injections.
CONCLUSIONS
RUF following prostate cancer treatment is a serious complication with severe repercussion on patients' quality of life. Surgical repair with the York Mason technique or Gracilis Flap interposition is associated with good success rates. If available pediculed gracilis muscle should be used as it offers better success rates.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE
Upper gastrointestinal (UGI) tract non-neoplastic disorders are detrimental to cancer treatment. This study is to evaluate the feasibility of transnasal esophagogastroduodenoscopy in the diagnosis of UGI disorders at the same time as the diagnosis of hypopharyngeal cancer and to provide the prevalence of UGI disorders in patients with fresh hypopharyngeal cancer.
METHODS
A prospective cases series study.
METHODS
Patients with newly diagnosed hypopharyngeal cancer between 2007 and 2010 were enrolled. An endoscope (GIF-XP260N; Olympus Optical, Tokyo, Japan) without conscious sedation was transnasally used to evaluate from the pharynx to duodenum.
RESULTS
One hundred two patients were evaluated. Sixty-five patients had at least one UGI disorder: gastric/duodenal ulcers in 32; active Helicobacter pylori infection in 36; and erosive esophagitis in 20 patients, including Los Angeles classification grade A in eight patients, grade B in 10, grade C in one, and grade D in one. Of the abovementioned disorders, 45 patients had only one, 17 patients had two, and three patients had all of the above disorders. Neither age, sex, location, nor T classification of the hypopharyngeal tumor was associated with the presence of UGI disorders.
CONCLUSIONS
Transnasal esophagogastroduodenoscopy can be a single procedure to diagnose hypopharyngeal cancer and UGI disorders at one session. Approximately ⅔ of the patients with fresh hypopharyngeal cancer had either erosive esophagitis, active H. pylori infection, or gastric/duodenal ulcers.

Abstract
This paper describes the design and characterization of miniaturized optofluidic devices for sensing based on integrating collimating optical fibers with custom microfluidic chips. The use of collimating graded-index fiber (GIF) tips allows for effective fiber-channel-fiber interfaces to be realized when compared with using highly-divergent standard single-mode fiber (SMF). The reduction in both beam divergence and insertion losses for the GIF configuration compared with SMF was characterized for a 10.0 mm channel. Absorption spectroscopy was demonstrated on chip for the measurement of red color dye (Ponceau 4R), and the detection of thiocyanate in water and artificial human saliva. The proposed optofluidic setup allows for absorption spectroscopy measurements to be performed with only 200 µL of solution which is an order of magnitude smaller than for standard cuvettes but provides a comparable sensitivity. The approach could be integrated into a lab-on-a-chip system that is compact and does not require free-space optics to perform absorption spectroscopy.

Abstract
The attenuation (sum of absorption and scattering), which is caused by the dense and non-uniform medium, generally leads to problems of color degradation and detail loss in underwater imaging. In this study, we describe an underwater image enhancement method based on adaptive attenuation-curve prior. This method uses color channel transfer (CCT) to preprocess the underwater images, light smoothing, and wavelength-dependent attenuation to estimate water light and obtain the attenuation ratio between color channels, and estimates and refines the initial relative transmission of the channel. Additionally, the method calculates the attenuation factor and saturation constraints of the three color channels and generates an adjusted reverse saturation map (ARSM) to address uneven light intensity, after which the image is restored through water light and transmission estimation. Furthermore, we applied white balance fusion globally guided image filtering (G-GIF) technology to achieve color enhancement and edge detail preservation in the underwater images. Comparison experiments showed that the proposed method obtained better color and de-hazing effects, as well as clearer edge details, relative to current methods.

Abstract
Neural tube defects (NTDs) are birth defects that arise during embryogenesis when normal neural tube closure fails to occur. According to the World Health Organization, NTDs are detected annually in approximately 300,000 neonates worldwide. The exact etiology of NTDs remains complex and poorly understood. It is generally agreed that most NTD cases are of multifactorial origin, having a combination of multiple genes and a number of environmental risk factors. The role of folic acid, vitamin B12 deficiency, genetics and other risk factors, in the etiology of NTDs, have also been extensively studied. This knowledge synthesis brings together different types of evidence to update the role of vitamin B12 deficiency, genetics and other risk factors, in the etiology of NTDs. Following a PubMed search and screening for relevant articles, we included 40 studies in our review (30 case control studies, 3 cross-sectional studies, 5 cohort studies, and 2 case reports). The available data showed that vitamin B12 levels were decreased in mothers and infants in NTD groups compared to control groups. Holo-transcobalamin, the active form of vitamin B12, was also found in lower levels in mothers with NTD-affected infants. Several studies reported elevated homocysteine levels in mothers and infants in NTD groups. Additionally, numerous studies reported links between genetic variants and increased NTD risk. These genes include GIF, LRP2, CUBN, TCb1R, MTHFR, and others. Several maternal factors have also been linked with significant NTD risk such as BMI, maternal diet, air pollutants, low maternal age, and many others. The majority of studies on NTDs have focused on the role of folic acid, hence there is a need for well-designed studies on the role of other risk factors like vitamin B12 deficiency in the etiology of NTDs.

Abstract
Duodenal cancer is a leading cause of death after colectomy in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Detailed endoscopic evaluation of duodenal lesions with potential for carcinoma development is therefore mandatory. Here we investigated the features of duodenal lesions in FAP patients using an endocytoscopy system (ECS). We retrospectively reviewed duodenal lesions in 15 cases of FAP using an ECS (GIF-H290EC) with methylene blue (MB) as the vital dye. With reference to the Spigelman classification, we investigated the number of lesions using white light (WL), narrow-band imaging (NBI), and MB staining. Using the maximum magnification power of the ECS we investigated the histology (duct openings or finger-like projections) and grade of dysplasia (presence or absence of enlarged oval-shaped nuclei) of the lesions. The number of duodenal lesions increased in ascending order of WL, NBI, and MB (P < 0.05). Among 51 MB-unstained lesions, 46 (90.2%) were proven to be duodenal neoplasms histologically. Duct openings were seen in 90.2% of tubular adenomas and tubulovillous adenomas. Finger-like projections were seen in 33.3% of tubular adenomas and in 88.2% of tubulovillous adenomas. Enlarged oval-shaped nuclei were observed in 100% of duodenal cancers, 33.3% of high-grade adenomas, and 9.4% of low-grade adenomas. MB staining allows more accurate detection of duodenal neoplasms in comparison to conventional WL and NBI observation. In cases of FAP, use of the maximum magnification power of the ECS may allow selection of lesions with high malignant potential.

Abstract
Background: Hereditary intrinsic factor deficiency is a rare disease characterized by cobalamin deficiency with the lack of gastric intrinsic factor because of gastric intrinsic factor (GIF) mutations. Patients usually present with cobalamin deficiency without gastroscopy abnormality and intrinsic factor antibodies.
Case presentation: A Chinese patient presented with recurrent severe anemia since age 2 with low cobalamin level and a mild elevation of indirect bilirubin. The hemoglobin level normalized each time after intramuscular vitamin B12 injection. Gene test verified a c.776delA frame shift mutation in exon 6 combined with c.585C > A nonsense early termination mutation in exon 5 of GIF which result in the dysfunction of gastric intrinsic factor protein. The hereditary intrinsic factor deficiency in literature was further reviewed and the ancestry of different mutation sites were discussed.
Conclusions: A novel compound heterozygous mutation of GIF in a Chinese patient of hereditary intrinsic factor deficiency was reported. It was the first identified mutation of GIF in East-Asia and may indicate a new ancestry.

Abstract
Due to high interaction rates, smart devices are being utilized for mobile health (mHealth) interventions. Multimedia capabilities may be leveraged to improve mHealth exercise interventions. Our purpose was to explore individuals' perceptions of multimedia exercise prompts tailored to their immediate mental/physical states. Using electronic surveys, respondents provided in-the-moment ratings of emotional state, energy, fatigue, physical discomfort, and thirst, with higher scores reflecting a higher "readiness to exercise" (i.e., if a person is currently in a pleasant mood with high energy and low discomfort, he/she is likely to have a greater capacity for a larger dose of exercise). They were then provided with an exercise prompt designed to match their readiness to exercise, demonstrated via text and graphic interchange format (GIF) showing a research member completing the recommended activity. Survey data regarding GIF quality, self-efficacy, and methodological feedback were then collected and analyzed using a combination of parametric statistics and thematic analysis of open-ended feedback. Respondents (N=204; 47±10 years; BMI 29±6 kg/m2) indicated GIFs loaded quickly (5.29±1.2, scale 0-6), were clear (5.36±1.1), and easily understandable (5.43±1.1). High task self-efficacy scores (9.34±1.62, scale 0-10) and statistically significant differences in coping self-efficacy (i.e., how well a person would be able to complete the recommended activity when feeling mentally/physically worse or better; F=3.229, p<.01) were found. Five themes relating to the exercise prompt were noted: improve attractiveness, limiting factors, exercise clarification, liked/understandable/doable, and disliked/unwilling to complete. Further refinement of these methods is warranted prior to using multimedia prompts to elicit actual exercise performance.

Abstract
Stress induces an imbalance of neuroimmunomodulation, a phenomenon involving the immune, central nervous and endocrine systems. Receptors to substances involved in stress reactions and anxiety, like adrenaline, acetylcholine, histamine, endomorphines, ACTH and several neuropeptides, are present on lymphocytes and lymphocytes can secrete various hormones and neuropeptides. Peripheral and central, cortical and subcortical nervous structures influence immune response. Steroids play a dose dependent inhibitory role perhaps via GIF (Glucocorticoid Increasing Factor) and cytokines (IL 1). In rats, stress induces an increase of corticosterone levels and a lymphopenia depending on the presence of adrenals and pituitary, whereas functional responses to mitogens appear decreased in animals even after surgical removal of adrenals and/or pituitary. Immune response vary according to the degree of control over stressors, to the type of stressor and the animal species. Chronic or repeated stress tends to stimulate immune reaction, contrary to acute stress. In man grief reactions, terminal illness of a spouse, divorce, examinations, caregiving to Alzheimer patients have been used as models of stress, with immune consequences. Pathological anxiety has been less studied, with only few anomalies reported in DSM III-R panic disorder. The immune system participation in the adaptive response to stress is reviewed.

Abstract
The parapoxvirus orf virus (ORFV) encodes several immunomodulatory proteins (IMPs) that modulate host innate and pro-inflammatory responses to infection. Using the ORFV IA82 strain as the parental virus, recombinant viruses with individual deletions in the genes encoding the IMPs chemokine binding protein (CBP; ORFV112), inhibitor of granulocyte-monocyte colony-stimulating factor and IL-2 (GIF, ORFV117) and interleukin 10 homologue (vIL-10; ORFV127) were generated and characterized in vitro and in vivo. The replication properties of the individual gene deletion viruses in cell culture was not affected comparing with the parental virus. To investigate the effect of the individual gene deletions in ORFV infection and pathogenesis, groups of four lambs were inoculated with each virus and were monitored thereafter. Lambs inoculated with either recombinant or with the parental ORFV developed characteristic lesions of contagious ecthyma. The onset, nature and severity of the lesions in the oral commissure were similar in all inoculated groups from the onset (3 days post-inoculation [pi]) to the peak of clinical lesions (days 11-13 pi). Nonetheless, from days 11-13 pi onwards, the oral lesions in lambs inoculated with the recombinant viruses regressed faster than the lesions produced by the parental virus. Similarly, the amount of virus shed in the lesions were equivalent among lambs of all groups up to day 15 pi, yet they were significantly higher in the parental virus group from day 16-21 pi. In conclusion, individual deletion of these IMP genes from the ORFV genome resulted in slight reduction in virulence in vivo, as evidenced by a reduction in the duration of the clinical disease and virus shedding.

Abstract
Parapoxvirus (PPV) has been identified in some mammals and poses a great threat to both the livestock production and public health. However, the prevalence and evolution of this virus are still not fully understood. Here, we performed an in silico analysis to investigate the genomic features and evolution of PPVs. We noticed that although there were significant differences of GC contents between orf virus (ORFV) and other three species of PPVs, all PPVs showed almost identical nucleotide bias, that is GC richness. The structural analysis of PPV genomes showed the divergence of different PPV species, which may be due to the specific adaptation to their natural hosts. Additionally, we estimated the phylogenetic diversity of seven different genes of PPV. According to all available sequences, our results suggested that during 2010-2018, ORFV was the dominant virus species under the selective pressure of the optimal gene patterns. Furthermore, we found the substitution rates ranged from 3.56 × 10-5 to 4.21 × 10-4 in different PPV segments, and the PPV VIR gene evolved at the highest substitution rate. In these seven protein-coding regions, purifying selection was the major evolutionary pressure, while the GIF and VIR genes suffered the greatest positive selection pressure. These results may provide useful knowledge on the virus genetic evolution from a new perspective which could help to create prevention and control strategies.

Abstract
A highly sensitive fiberized hydrogen sensor based upon Mach-Zehnder interference (MZI) is experimentally demonstrated. The hydrogen sensor consists of an MZI realized by creating an air cavity inside the core of a half-pitch graded-index fiber (GIF) by use of femtosecond laser micromachining. Thermosensitive polymer was filled into the air cavity and cured by UV illumination. Subsequently, the external surface of the polymer-filled MZI was coated with Pt-loaded tungsten trioxide (WO3). The exothermic reaction occurs as Pt-loaded WO3 contacts the target of the sensing, i.e. hydrogen in the atmosphere, which leads to a significant local temperature rise on the external surface of the coated MZI sensor. The sensor exhibits a maximum sensitivity up to -1948.68 nm/% (vol %), when the hydrogen concentration increases from 0% to 0.8% at room temperature. Moreover, the sensor exhibits a rapid rising response time (hydrogen concentration increasing) of ∼38 s and falling response time (hydrogen concentration decreasing) of ∼15 s, respectively. Thanks to its small size, strong robustness, high accuracy and repeatability, the proposed in-fiber MZI hydrogen sensor will be a promising tool for hydrogen leakage tracing in many areas, such as safety production and hydrogen medical treatment.

Abstract
The goal of this study was to investigate the performance of different feature types for voice quality classification using multiple classifiers. The study compared the COVAREP feature set; which included glottal source features, frequency warped cepstrum and harmonic model features; against the mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) computed from the acoustic voice signal, acoustic-based glottal inverse filtered (GIF) waveform, and electroglottographic (EGG) waveform. Our hypothesis was that MFCCs can capture the perceived voice quality from either of these three voice signals. Experiments were carried out on recordings from 28 participants with normal vocal status who were prompted to sustain vowels with modal and non-modal voice qualities. Recordings were rated by an expert listener using the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V), and the ratings were transformed into a dichotomous label (presence or absence) for the prompted voice qualities of modal voice, breathiness, strain, and roughness. The classification was done using support vector machines, random forests, deep neural networks and Gaussian mixture model classifiers, which were built as speaker independent using a leave-one-speaker-out strategy. The best classification accuracy of 79.97% was achieved for the full COVAREP set. The harmonic model features were the best performing subset, with 78.47% accuracy, and the static+dynamic MFCCs scored at 74.52%. A closer analysis showed that MFCC and dynamic MFCC features were able to classify modal, breathy, and strained voice quality dimensions from the acoustic and GIF waveforms. Reduced classification performance was exhibited by the EGG waveform.

Abstract
A patient, an 80-year-old female, had complained of a cough for 20 weeks, and was not cured by cough medicine. Gastroesophageal reflux was considered as the cause of the cough because of her symptoms and gastrointestinal fiberscopy (GIF) and barium meal studies. She made favorable progress on a histamine H2 blocker and cysapurid for 4 weeks. Therefore we diagnosed her cough as caused by gastroesophageal reflux. We also studied the incidence of chronic persistent cough in patients suspected of gastroesophageal reflux because of symptoms and GIF results. Among 676 cases examined by GIF at Niigata-kenritsu Myoko Hospital, we detected 7 cases who complained of heartburn and in whom we observed hiatal hernia and reflux esophagitis by GIF. Only one of them, the present case, complained of a cough. CPC caused by gastroesophageal reflux is not seen frequently, but the possibility of GER as the cause of CPC should be considered.

Abstract
Growth-regulating factors (GRFs) are important regulators of plant development and growth, but their possible roles in xylem development in woody plants remain unclear. Here, we report that Populus alba × P. glandulosa PagGRF12a negatively regulates xylem development in poplar. PagGRF12a is expressed in vascular tissues. Compared to non-transgenic control plants, transgenic poplar plants overexpressing PagGRF12a exhibited reduced xylem width and plants with repressed expression of PagGRF12a exhibited increased xylem width. Xylem NAC domain 1 (XND1) encodes a NAC domain transcription factor that regulates xylem development and transcriptional analyses revealed that PagXND1a is highly upregulated in PagGRF12a-overexpressing plants and downregulated in PagGRF12a-suppressed plants, indicating that PagGRF12a may regulate xylem development through PagXND1a. Transient transcriptional assays and chromatin immunoprecipitation-polymerase chain reaction assays confirmed that PagGRF12a directly upregulates PagXND1a. In addition, PagGRF12a interacts with the GRF-Interacting Factor (<em>GIF</em>) Pag<em>GIF</em>1b, and this interaction enhances the effects of PagGRF12a on PagXND1a. Abstract
Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is an inflammatory condition that affects the posterior of the eye; yet, there are limited published data on techniques measuring the expression of growth and inflammatory factors (GIF) from the posterior segment. The purpose of the current study was two-fold: to sample the vitreous fluid from the eyes of patients with DR and assess the expression of GIF. As DR is an inflammatory disease, the second objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the status of DR and the expression of vitreous GIF. This non-randomized clinical trial was approved by BfARM for the analysis and evaluation of 12 eyes from patients with diabetic macular edema. Vitreous sampling was performed before treatment with fluocinolone acetonide and the extracted vitreous material was examined for the determination of GIF including interleukins 6 (IL-6) and 8 (IL-8), interferon gamma-inducible protein (IP-10), monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), placental growth factor (PIGF), pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) and intercellular adhesion molecule (CD54). These were linearly compared with the grade of inflammation in the vitreous assessed via DR score and ART. Additionally, all eyes were grouped based on their diabetic retinopathy status. All cytokine levels, except MCP-1 and PEDF, were numerically higher in DME patients with proliferative DR than those with non-proliferative DR. DR grade was found to linearly correlate with the expression of CD54 (p = 0.02, rho = 0.64), IL-8 (p = 0.03, rho = 0.64) and PIGF (p = 0.007, rho = 0.76). A correlation was found between ART and CD54 (p = 0.02, rho = 0.66) and also between ART and IL-8 (p = 0.04, rho = 0.60). A trend was found between ART and PIGF (p = 0.08, rho 0.52). For IL-6, there appeared to be a trend with DR grade (p = 0.14, rho = 0.45) and ART (p = 0.09, rho = 0.51). Proliferative DR was shown to be associated with a significant higher expression of CD54, IL-8 and PIGF, thus suggesting that they are potentially important in defining and monitoring the effectiveness of a patients' therapy. Vitreous probes may be helpful in deciding which therapy to administer (i.e. anti-VEGF or corticosteroid or both) based on the expression of GIF. Abstract
Background: Buprenorphine-naloxone is an evidence-based treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). Despite its efficacy, nearly half of patients discontinue treatment prematurely. Novel intervention strategies that may be delivered outside of traditional treatment settings are needed to support buprenorphine uptake and maintenance. The goal of this study was to elucidate key elements surrounding the acceptability/feasibility and structure of an interactive computer- and text message-delivered personalized feedback intervention for adults initiating outpatient buprenorphine treatment.
Methods: Twenty-four adults engaged in treatment at two outpatient addiction treatment centers completed semistructured interviews exploring preferences around digital health interventions. Trained interviewers conducted interviews, the study audio-recorded them, and a professional agency transcribed them verbatim. The research team iteratively developed a coding structure using thematic and content analysis and entered it into a framework matrix. The team double coded each transcript.
Results: The sample was balanced by gender, primary type of opioid use (prescription pills; heroin/fentanyl), and phase of recovery [early (≤8 weeks of treatment) vs. late (>8 weeks of treatment)]. The study reached saturation after 24 interviews (mean age = 38.9; 70.8% white; 8.3% Hispanic/Latino). (1) Acceptability/feasibility themes: A computer- and text message-based intervention that incorporates a motivational- and distress tolerance-based framework is highly acceptable. Presentation of material, including the length of the intervention, is effective in facilitating learning. The center should offer the intervention to individuals entering treatment and they should have the flexibility to complete the intervention at the center or in private from their own home. The use of technology for intervention delivery helps to overcome fears of judgment stemming from stigmatizing experiences. (2) Structural themes: The text message intervention should deliver both predetermined (automatic) and on demand messages. Two to three messages per day (morning and early evening), with the option to elicit additional messages as needed, would be ideal. The messages must be personalized. Incorporating multimedia such as emojis, gifs, and links to videos will increase interactivity.
Conclusions: Overall, adults engaged in outpatient buprenorphine treatment were receptive to an interactive computer- and text messaged-delivered personalized feedback intervention to support recovery. Incorporating thematic results on suggested structural changes may increase the usability of this intervention to improve treatment outcomes by reducing illicit opioid use, increasing adherence/retention, and preventing future overdose and other complications of illicit opioid use.

Abstract
The improved in vitro gastrointestinal simulation methods, with the addition of the adsorption sink, are considered as a promising tool for predicting the bioaccessibility of contaminants. However, the problem associated with the recovery of the adsorption sink from the complex matrix needs more understand. Although previous studies tried to solve this shortcoming by using the containers (a vessel to hold the adsorption sink), there is no systematic comparison study on the impact of containers on bioaccessibility till now, especially for nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs). In order to understand the problem, commonly used containers in previous studies (dialysis bags and stainless-steel screen) were selected and deployed in the Fed Organic Estimation Human Simulation Test (FOREhST) method to compare the effects of these containers on the bioaccessibility of nitro-PAHs desorbed from the five different types of soils into the gastrointestinal fluid (GIF). Results showed that in order to maintain a constant sorptive gradient for the high molecular weight (MW) nitro-PAHs, 0.25 g of Tenax TA® were required in FOREhST. Compared with Tenax TA® encapsulated in dialysis bag (Tenax-EDBG), the use of Tenax TA® encapsulated in dissolution basket (Tenax-EDBT) significantly increased the bioaccessibility of nitro-PAHs in the soil from 5.6-31.4% to 17.2-70.6%, due to the better diffusion performance. The bioaccessibility of nitro-PAHs by FOREhST extraction with Tenax-EDBT showed a significant negative correlation with soil total organic carbon (TOC), whereas a weak correlation with pH. This study provides the researchers with a more standardized in vitro method to quantify the bioaccessibility of PAHs and their derivatives in soil.

Abstract
This work demonstrates an advanced approach to fabricate Hybrid nanoporous anodic alumina gradient-index filters (Hy-NAA-GIFs) through a heterogeneous anodization process combining sinusoidal current-density anodization and constant potential anodization. As a result, the hybrid structure obtained reveals a single photonic stopband (PSB), which falls within the absorption region of the drug molecule and the intensity of the spectrum that are far from such absorption range. The prepared structures were loaded with the doxorubicin (DOX) drug through the drop-casting method, which allows for evaluating the maximum reflectance of the relative height of the PSB with the average reflectance of the spectrum intensity. Thereafter, this property has been applied in a flow cell setup connected to a reflectance spectrophotometer where different drug-loaded samples were placed to study the behavior and kinetics of the drug release in real-time by varying two parameters, i.e., different pore length and flow rates. As such, obtained results were analyzed with a model that includes a sum of two inverted exponential decay functions with two different characteristic time releases. Overall, this study opens up several possibilities for the Hy-NAA-GIFs to study the drug kinetics from nanoporous structures.

Abstract
A genealogy of the United States has been record-linked to National Veteran's Health Administration (VHA) patient data to allow non-identifiable analysis of familial clustering. This genealogy, including over 70 million individuals linked to over 1 million VHA patients, is the largest such combined resource reported. Analysis of familial clustering among VHA patients diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) allowed a test of the hypothesis of an inherited contribution to PTSD. PTSD is associated strongly with military service and extended familial clustering data have not previously been presented. PTSD-affected VHA patients with genealogy data were identified by presence of an ICD diagnosis code in the VHA medical record in at least 2 different years. The Genealogical Index of Familiality (GIF) method was used to compare the average relatedness of VHA patients diagnosed with PTSD with their expected average relatedness, estimated from randomly selected sets of matched linked VHA patient controls. Relative risks for PTSD were estimated in first-, second-, and third-degree relatives of PTSD patients who were also VHA patients, using sex and age-matched rates for PTSD estimated from all linked VHA patients. Significant excess pairwise relatedness, and significantly elevated risk for PTSD in first-, second-, and third-degree relatives was observed; multiple high-risk extended PTSD pedigrees were identified. The analysis provides evidence for excess familial clustering of PTSD and identified high-risk PTSD pedigrees. These results support an inherited contribution to PTSD predisposition and identify a powerful resource of high-risk PTSD pedigrees for predisposition gene identification.

Abstract
Background: Psychological distress increases across adolescence and has been associated with several important health outcomes with consequences that can extend into adulthood. One type of technological innovation that may serve as a unique intervention for youth experiencing psychological distress is the conversational agent, otherwise known as a chatbot. Further research is needed on the factors that may make mental health chatbots destined for adolescents more appealing and increase the likelihood that adolescents will use them.
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess adolescents' emotional reactions and likelihood of responding to questions that could be posed by a mental health chatbot. Understanding adolescent preferences and factors that could increase adolescents' likelihood of responding to chatbot questions could assist in future mental health chatbot design destined for youth.
Methods: We recruited 19 adolescents aged 14 to 17 years to participate in a study with a 2×2×3 within-subjects factorial design. Each participant was sequentially presented with 96 chatbot questions for a duration of 8 seconds per question. Following each presentation, participants were asked to indicate how likely they were to respond to the question, as well as their perceived affective reaction to the question. Demographic data were collected, and an informal debriefing was conducted with each participant.
Results: Participants were an average of 15.3 years old (SD 1.00) and mostly female (11/19, 58%). Logistic regressions showed that the presence of GIFs predicted perceived emotional valence (β=-.40, P<.001), such that questions without GIFs were associated with a negative perceived emotional valence. Question type predicted emotional valence, such that yes/no questions (β=-.23, P=.03) and open-ended questions (β=-.26, P=.01) were associated with a negative perceived emotional valence compared to multiple response choice questions. Question type also predicted the likelihood of response, such that yes/no questions were associated with a lower likelihood of response compared to multiple response choice questions (β=-.24, P=.03) and a higher likelihood of response compared to open-ended questions (β=.54, P<.001).
Conclusions: The findings of this study add to the rapidly growing field of teen-computer interaction and contribute to our understanding of adolescent user experience in their interactions with a mental health chatbot. The insights gained from this study may be of assistance to developers and designers of mental health chatbots.

Abstract
In this work, a methodology that exploits the optical properties of the nanoporous anodic alumina gradient index filters (NAA-GIFs) has been developed and applied to evaluate in real time the release dynamics of a cargo molecule, acting as a model drug, filling the pores. NAA-GIFs with two photonic stopbands (PSBs) were prepared with one of its stop bands in the same absorption wavelength range of the cargo molecule, whereas the second stopband away from this absorption range. Numerical simulation and experiments confirm that the relative height of the high reflectance bands in the reflectance spectra of NAA-GIFs filled with the drug can be related to the relative amount of drug filling the pores. This property has been applied in a flow cell setup to measure in real-time the release dynamics of NAA-GIFs with the inner pore surface modified by layer-by-layer deposition of polyelectrolytes and loaded with the cargo molecule. The methodology developed in this work acts as a tool for the study of drug delivery from porous nanostructures.

Abstract
Background: To review the value of the gastrointestinal failure (GIF) score in children with different degrees of traumatic brain injury (TBI) by analyzing the correlation between outcome and gastrointestinal function.
Methods: A total of 165 children with TBI who were diagnosed and treated in the surgical intensive care unit (SICU) for longer than 72 h between August 2017 and September 2019 were analyzed. Admission parameters included sex, age, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, body mass index (BMI), leukocyte count, C-reactive protein (CRP), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (Hct), blood glucose, lactic acid, procalcitonin (PCT), albumin, plasma osmotic pressure, prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). To predict outcomes, the Pediatric Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, Pediatric Clinical Illness Score (PCIS), and mean GIF score for the first three days were combined.
Results: The percentage of patients with gastrointestinal dysfunction on the first day was 78.8 %. Food intolerance (FI) and intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) developed in 36.4 and 21.8 % of the patients, respectively. The GIF score and mean GIF score for the first three days were significantly different between children with different degrees of TBI (P < 0.05); these scores were also significantly different between patients who died and those who survived (P < 0.05). The mean GIF score for the first three days was identified as an independent risk factor for mortality (odds ratio > 1, 95 % confidence interval = 1.457 to 16.016, P < 0.01), as was the PCIS. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis suggested that the mean GIF score for the first three days had the same calibrating power as the PCIS in discriminating the risk of death of children.
Conclusions: The incidence of gastrointestinal dysfunction in children with TBI is high. The GIF score has the ability to reflect the status of the gastrointestinal system. The mean GIF score for the first three days has high prognostic value for ICU mortality in the SICU.
