Abstract
The essential oil from Amyris balsamifera (Rutaceae) and elemol, a principal constituent of the essential oil of Osage orange, Maclura pomifera (Moraceae) were evaluated in in vitro and in vivo laboratory bioassays for repellent activity against host-seeking nymphs of the blacklegged tick, Ixodes scapularis, and the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum. Both bioassays took advantage of the tendency of these host-seeking ticks to climb slender vertical surfaces. In one bioassay, the central portion of a vertical strip of filter paper was treated with test solution and ticks placed or allowed to crawl onto the untreated lower portion. In the other bioassay, a strip of organdy cloth treated with test solution was doubly wrapped (treatment on outer layer) around the middle phalanx of a forefinger and ticks released on the fingertip. Both amyris oil and elemol were repellent to both species of ticks. Elemol did not differ significantly in effectiveness against A. americanum from the widely used repellent deet. At 2 and 4 h after application to filter paper, 827 microg amyris oil/cm(2) paper repelled 80 and 55%, respectively, of A. americanum nymphs. Ixodes scapularis was repelled by lower concentrations of amyris oil and elemol than A. americanum.

Abstract
Two tree shades (TS1 and TS2) and an artificial shade structure (AS) were evaluated using black globe temperatures (BGTs) to assess their effectiveness in reducing heat load. The artificial structure consisted of a black woven polypropylene cloth providing 80% shade, mounted on 2.5-m-high eucalyptus posts. The work was carried out at Rafaela Experimental Station, Argentina, during the summer (January and February) 1994. BGTs and floor temperatures were measured in concrete floor holding pens with and without artificial shade. The results showed no difference between TS1, TS2 and AS, their average BGTs being 30.2 (SD 0.58), 29.0 (SD 0.70) and 30.2 (SD 0.74) degrees C, respectively. BGTs under all three shades were significantly lower (P < 0.01) than the average BGT recorded outside: 35.5 (SD 1.12) degrees C. Average BGTs in holding pens were 32.4 (SD 1.38) and 39.9 (SD 1.91) degrees C for shaded and non-shaded areas (P < 0.01). The corresponding average floor temperatures were 27.8 (SD 0.68) degrees C and 47.7 (SD 2.13) degrees C (P < 0.01). To assess the effects of shade on animal well-being, afternoon rectal temperatures (RT) and respiratory rate (respirations per minute, RR) of lactating cows were recorded twice a week. Rectal temperatures were significantly higher for non-shaded cows (P < 0.01), mean RT being 40.1 (SD 0.65) degrees C vs 39.3 (SD 0.42) degrees C for the shaded animals. Corresponding RRs were 78.9 (SD 18.0) and 60.7 (SD 10.6) (P < 0.05). It was concluded that: (1) tree and artificial shades produced similar effects, (2) shading the holding pen with an 80% shading cloth was effective in reducing heat load and floor temperatures, and (3) access to shade in our pasture-based system improved animal well-being.

Abstract
Mated and virgin female and virgin male tobacco budworm moths,Heliothis virescens (F.), responded via directed upwind flight in wind-tunnel bioassays to volatiles from floral extracts of cotton,Gossypium hirsutum L. Significantly more male and female moths landed on cloth dispensers treated with a methylene chloride extract of debracted flowers than on control dispensers treated only with methylene chloride. Only mated females landed in significant numbers on the dispensers treated with extract of cotton squares, flowers (including bracts), or flower petals. After landing, most of the moths examined the dispensers by probing with their antennae, proboscis, and/or ovipositor.

Abstract
Hydroxyapatite (HAp) formation on cellulose cloth with the aid of citric acid was investigated. The cellulose cloths were soaked in simulated body fluid (SBF) solutions (1.5 SBF) with ion concentrations 1.5 times that of SBF (1.0 SBF) with and without citric acid and carbonate containing HAp crystals were found to form only in the 1.5 SBF solution that contained citric acid. The results were explained in terms of hydrogen bonding of citric acid to the cellulose cloth and its chelating ability of calcium ions. Practical application may involve the inclusion of citric acid in the 1.5 SBF solution to promote formation of HAp on previously bioinert cellulose cloth.

Abstract
The authors describe a patient with chronic renal failure who developed intestinal obstruction from talcum powder pica. A literature review found 43 previously reported cases of surgical complications caused by various forms of pica. Most occurred in women, blacks, aborigines, children, or the mentally retarded--all groups in whom pica occurs more frequently than the general population. Intestinal obstruction was the most common clinical presentation and the ileum most often the site of obstruction reported at surgery. Perforation with peritonitis was the next most common presentation but three cases of colon perforation were diagnosed only at surgery or postmortem. Mixed pica (paper, plastic bags, cloth, string) seemed more likely to require surgery and to cause perforation. An accurate preoperative diagnosis was made most often when a history of pica was sought, and opacity on abdominal X rays correctly interpreted. These clues to pica as the underlying cause of abdominal complaints should not be neglected in patients who are members of the groups known to be at higher risk of this compulsive eating disorders.

Abstract
Deep infection after elective total joint arthroplasty remains a devastating complication. Preoperative nasal swab screening for Staphylococcus aureus colonization and subsequent treatment of colonized patients is one proposed method to identify at-risk patients and decrease surgical site infections (SSIs). The purpose of this study was to determine whether a preoperative staphylococcus screening and treatment program would decrease the incidence of SSI in elective joint arthroplasty patients.
Since January 2009, a total of 9690 patients having an elective joint arthroplasty were screened before surgery for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) with nares swabs. All patients with positive nare colonization for MSSA and MRSA were treated with mupirocin and chlorhexidine gluconate showers for 5 days before surgery. MRSA patients received vancomycin preoperatively and were placed in contact isolation. All elective arthroplasty patients used chlorhexidine gluconate antiseptic cloths the evening prior and the day of surgery. Perioperative infection rates were compared from 1 year before implementation to 5 years after implementation of this screening protocol.
SSI rates have decreased from 1.11% (prescreening) to 0.34% (nasal screening; P < .05) after initiation of the process. Staphylococcus was identified in 66.7% of the SSI infections before nasal screening and in 33.3% of the SSI after routine screening (P>> .05).
The addition of MRSA and/or MSSA nares screening along with a perioperative decolonization protocol has resulted in a decreased SSI rate by 69%.

Abstract
Heliothis virescens (F.) females responded positively via upwind flight in laboratory assays to volatiles emitted from methylńe chloride washes of fresh whole leaves of host plants including cotton, tobacco, and a weed species,Desmodium tortuosum (Swartz) de Candolle. Except forD. tortuosum, the response increased positively with dose; the steepest slope occurred with an extract of cotton squares (flower buds). Almost all of the moths that landed on the extract dispenser also oviposited. Moths simulated by extracts from cotton squares exhibited a full array of behaviors (upwind flight, contact with the dispenser, examination of the cloth substrate with antennae, and oviposition) expected of gravid individuals seeking sites to propagate the species.

Abstract
BACKGROUND
In 2005, of the approximately 4 million births in the United States, 30% were by cesarean section (C-section) delivery, which translates to roughly over 1 million C-sections in 2005 alone. C-section is associated with higher morbidity than vaginal delivery. Women who undergo C-section are 5 times more likely to develop a postpartum infection after delivery than women who undergo vaginal delivery.
OBJECTIVE
Estimates of surgical site infection (SSI) after C-section range from 1.50 to 2.64. A quality improvement initiative was implemented at the University of Minnesota Medical School to reduce rates of SSI using changes based on recommended care initiatives.
METHODS
The multidisciplinary team developed a comprehensive staff education and training program, added a preoperative skin preparation protocol using chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) no-rinse cloths, added CHG with alcohol for interoperative skin preparation, and modified instrument sterilization techniques.
RESULTS
Data analysis revealed a statistically significant reduction in the overall SSI rate from 7.5% (33/441) in January-July 2006 to 1.2% (5/436) in January-July 2007 (chi(2) test statistic, 21.2; P < .001; relative reduction of 84%).
CONCLUSIONS
Interventions, including staff education, use of CHG no-rinse cloths for preoperative skin prep, CHG with alcohol for intraoperative skin prep, and appropriate instrument sterilization management led to reductions in SSI rates in patients undergoing C-section at our institution. Rates of endometritis were also noted to be lower after implementation of the interventions.

Abstract
Metal nanowires (NWs) have become the most promising candidates for the next generation of flexible transparent conductive electrodes (FTCEs), with high transmittance and low sheet resistance. In this work, ultralong silver NWs (Ag NWs), ∼220 μm (even larger than 400 μm) in length and ∼55 nm in diameter (aspect ratio: ∼4000), were synthesized via a one-pot polyol process using high molecular weight poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (Mw = 1 300 000) and an appropriate concentration of FeCl3 (12.5 μM) through hydrothermal reaction. The prepared Ag NWs were purified by a filter cloth (pore size: about 30 × 50 μm2) to remove the Ag nanoparticles and short-length Ag NWs. The FTCE based on the ultralong Ag NWs without any post-treatments exhibits low sheet resistance of 155.0 Ω sq-1 and transmittance of 97.70% at 550 nm. The outstanding performance of FTECs demonstrated that the ultralong Ag NWs are ideal materials for applications in flexible transparent optical devices.

Abstract
BACKGROUND
Paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera (L.) L'Hér. ex Vent) is a dioecious tree native to East Asia and mainland Southeast-Asia, introduced prehistorically to Polynesia as a source of bark fiber by Austronesian-speaking voyagers. In Oceania, trees are coppiced and harvested for production of bark-cloth, so flowering is generally unknown. A survey of botanical records of paper mulberry revealed a distributional disjunction: the tree is apparently absent in Borneo and the Philippines. A subsequent study of chloroplast haplotypes linked paper mulberry of Remote Oceania directly to a population in southern Taiwan, distinct from known populations in mainland Southeast-Asia.
METHODS
We describe the optimization and use of a DNA marker designed to identify sex in paper mulberry. We used this marker to determine the sex distribution in selected localities across Asia, Near and Remote Oceania. We also characterized all samples using the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer sequence (ITS) in order to relate results to a previous survey of ITS diversity.
RESULTS
In Near and Remote Oceania, contemporary paper mulberry plants are all female with the exception of Hawaii, where plants of both sexes are found. In its natural range in Asia, male and female plants are found, as expected. Male plants in Hawaii display an East Asian ITS genotype, consistent with modern introduction, while females in Remote Oceania share a distinctive variant.
CONCLUSIONS
Most paper mulberry plants now present in the Pacific appear to be descended from female clones introduced prehistorically. In Hawaii, the presence of male and female plants is thought to reflect a dual origin, one a prehistoric female introduction and the other a modern male introduction by Japanese/Chinese immigrants. If only female clones were dispersed from a source-region in Taiwan, this may explain the absence of botanical records and breeding populations in the Philippines and Borneo, and Remote Oceania.

Abstract
Thirdhand cigarette smoke (THS) was recently recognized as an environmental health hazard; however, little is known about it effects on cells. Mitochondria are sensitive monitors of cell health and report on environmentally induced stress. We tested the effects of low levels of THS extracted from terry cloth on mitochondrial morphology and function using stem cells with well-defined mitochondria. Concentrations of THS that did not kill cells caused stress-induced mitochondrial hyperfusion (SIMH), which was characterized by changes in mitochondrial morphology indicative of fusion, increased mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), increased ATP levels, increased superoxide production, and increased oxidation of mitochondrial proteins. SIMH was accompanied by a decrease in Fis1 expression, a gene responsible for mitochondrial fission, and a decrease in apoptosis-related genes, including Aifm2, Bbc3, and Bid There was also down regulation of Ucp2, Ucp4, and Ucp5, genes that decrease MMP thereby reducing oxidative phosphorylation, while promoting glycolysis. These effects, which collectively accompany SIMH, are a prosurvival mechanism to rescue damaged mitochondria and protect cells from apoptosis. Prolonged exposure to THS caused a reduction in MMP and decreased cell proliferation, which likely leads to apoptosis.

Abstract
Harvesting human-motion energy for power-integrated wearable electronics could be a promising way to extend the battery-operation time of small low-power-consumption electronics such as various sensors. For this purpose, a fully stretchable triboelectric nanogenerator (S-TENG) that has been fabricated with knitted fabrics and has been integrated with the directly available materials and techniques of the textile industry is introduced. This device has been adapted to cloth movement and can generate electricity under compression and stretching. We investigated plain-, double-, and rib-fabric structures and analyzed their potentials for textile-based energy harvesting. The superior stretchable property of the rib-knitted fabric contributed to a dramatic enhancement of the triboelectric power-generation performance owing to the increased contact surface. The present study shows that, under stretching motions of up to 30%, the S-TENG generates a maximum voltage and a current of 23.50 V and 1.05 μA, respectively, depending on the fabric structures. Under compressions at 3.3 Hz, the S-TENG generated a constant average root-mean square power of up to 60 μW. The results of this work show the feasibility of a cloth-integrated and industrial-ready TENG for the harvesting of energy from human biomechanical movements in cloth and garments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND
Despite a substantial decrease in child mortality in Ethiopia over the past decade, neonatal mortality remains unchanged (37/1000 live-births). This paper describes a qualitative study on beliefs and practices on immediate newborn and postnatal care in four rural communities of Ethiopia conducted to inform development of a package of community-based interventions targeting newborns.
METHODS
The study team conducted eight key informant interviews (KII) with grandmothers, 27 in-depth interviews (IDI) with mothers; seven IDI with traditional birth attendants (TBA) and 15IDI with fathers, from four purposively selected communities located in Sidama Zone of Southern Nationalities, Nations, and Peoples (SNNP) Region and in East Shewa and West Arsi Zones of Oromia Region.
RESULTS
In the study communities deliveries occurred at home. After cutting the umbilical cord, the baby is put to the side of the mother, not uncommonly with no cloth covering. This is largely due to attendants focusing on delivery of the placenta which is reinforced by the belief that the placenta is the 'house' or 'blanket' of the baby and that any "harm" caused to the placenta will transfer to the newborn. Applying butter or ointment to the cord "to speed drying" is common practice. Initiation of breastfeeding is often delayed and women commonly report discarding colostrum before initiating breastfeeding. Sub-optimal breastfeeding practices continue, due to perceived inadequate maternal nutrition and breast milk often leading to the provision of herbal drinks. Poor thermal care is also demonstrated through lack of continued skin-to-skin contact, exposure of newborns to smoke, frequent bathing-often with cold water baths for low-birth weight or small babies; and, poor hygienic practices are reported, particularly hand washing prior to contact with the newborn.
CONCLUSIONS
Cultural beliefs and newborn care practices do not conform to recommended standards. Local perspectives related to newborn care practices should inform behaviour change messages. Such messages should target mothers, grandmothers, TBAs, other female family members and fathers.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheet wrapped polyaniline (PANI) nanowire arrays grown on nitrogen-doped carbon fiber cloth (eCFC). The RGO coating layer is important to accommodate volume change and mechanical deformation of the coated PANI nanowires arrays during the long-term charge/discharge processes. The resulting hierarchical symmetric supercapacitor based on RGO/PANI/eCFC composites shows an enhanced capacitive behavior with a maximum energy density of 25.4 Wh kg(-1), a maximum power density of 92.2 kW kg(-1) and a specific capacitance of 1145 F g(-1), which is higher than that of PANI/eCFC (1050 F g(-1)) and GO/PANI/eCFC (940 F g(-1)). Moreover, the assembled supercapacitor exhibits excellent charge/discharge rates and a good cycling stability, retaining over 94% of its initial capacitance after 5000 cycles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE
The study aim was to assess tissue quality and host-biomaterial interactions in clinical bioprostheses fabricated from bovine pericardium preserved by dye-mediated photooxidation, but not glutaraldehyde-pretreated.
METHODS
Ten aortic valves explanted for regurgitation after 8-23 months' function from 10 patients aged 67-83 years were analyzed by gross and dissecting microscope examination, radiography and light microscopy.
RESULTS
Each valve had one to several commissural-basal tears (5 mm) to complete leaflet detachment (four valves). The pattern of tearing was consistent among valves and suggested that a mechanism of design-related proximal inflow surface cuspal abrasion against Dacron cloth was contributory. Mild cuspal sagging/stretching was noted in five valves, pannus overgrowth was mild, and there was no evidence of infection or macroscopic thrombus. Microscopically, tissue distant from tears in all valves had an essentially intact but acellular collagenous matrix, was devoid of residual connective tissue cells and host inflammatory cells, with mild fragmentation of the inflow collagen bundles, and showed no evidence of endothelialization. Despite radiographs uniformly negative for mineralization, focal intrinsic cuspal microcalcification was noted histologically in four valves.
CONCLUSIONS
Design-related and largely abrasion-induced tearing caused failures of this cohort of photooxidized pericardial valves. Nevertheless, this nonglutaraldehyde-preserved photofixed pericardial tissue from valves suffering design-related cuspal tears to two years postoperatively remained without significant degradation, inflammation, infection, thrombus, pannus or calcification.

Abstract
Syntrophic metabolism of alcohols and fatty acids is a critical step in anaerobic digestion, which if enhanced can better stabilize the process and enable shorter retention times. Direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) has recently been recognized as an alternative route to hydrogen interspecies transfer as a mechanism for interspecies syntrophic electron exchange. Therefore, the possibility of accelerating syntrophic metabolism of ethanol in up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors by incorporating conductive materials in reactor design was investigated. Graphite, biochar, and carbon cloth all immediately enhanced methane production and COD removal. As the hydraulic retention time was decreased the increased effectiveness of treatment in reactors with conductive materials increased versus the control reactor. When these conductive materials were removed from the reactors rates of syntrophic metabolism declined to rates comparable to the control reactor. These results suggest that incorporating conductive materials in the design of UASB reactors may enhance digester effectiveness.

Abstract
Studies have shown that various objects, such as utensils, toys, and clothes, can serve as vehicles for transmission of Shigella spp. Shigellae can become viable but non-culturable (VBNC) when exposed to various environmental conditions as shown in earlier studies. The present study was carried out to detect VBNC Shigella dysenteriae type 1 on various fomites by direct viable counting, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and fluorescent antibody methods. S. dysenteriae type 1 was inoculated onto cloth, wood, plastic, aluminum, and glass objects. Results showed that 1.5-4.0 hours after inoculation, S. dysenteriae type 1 became non-culturable, and after five days, non-culturable but viable S. dysenteriae type 1 could be detected by both PCR and fluorescent antibody techniques. Fomites can be considered an important potential route of transmission of VBNC S. dysenteriae type 1 and a significant factor in the epidemiology of shigellosis.

Abstract
In the present article, we propose a simple Antibiofilm Dressing's Activity Measurement (A.D.A.M.) test that allows to check in vitro a dressing's suitability against biofilm-related wound infections. To perform the test, three agar discs are covered with biofilm formed by the tested pathogen after which they are assembled one over another in the form of an agar plug and placed in the well of a 24-well plate. The top disc is covered with the analyzed dressing and the entire set is incubated for 24h. During this time, the investigated antimicrobial substance is released from the dressing and penetrates to subsequent biofilm-covered agar discs. Biofilm reduction is measured using 2,3,5-triphenyl-2H-tetrazolium chloride (TTC) spectrometric assay and the results are compared to untreated control samples (agar plug covered with biofilm and without the dressing/or with a passive dressing placed on the top disc). Furthermore, in order to standardize the differences in penetrability of the drugs released from active dressings the results can be expressed as a dimensionless value referred to as the Penetrability Index. In summary, A.D.A.M. test is simple, cheap, can be performed practically in every clinical laboratory and takes no more time than routine microbiological diagnostics. Apart from measuring the released drug's activity, the A.D.A.M. test allows to assess drug penetrability (across three agar discs), reflecting real wound conditions, where microbes are frequently hidden under the necrotic tissue or cloth. In conclusion, the A.D.A.M. test produces a high volume of data that, when analyzed, can provide a researcher with a valuable hint concerning the applicability of active dressings against specific biofilm pathogens in a particular setting.

Abstract
Surgical site infections are associated with significant patient morbidity and mortality and are the third most frequently reported health care-associated infection. A suggested risk reduction strategy has been the preadmission shower or skin cleansing with chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG). Although older clinical trials question the clinical efficacy of cleansing with CHG, recent evidence-based scientific and clinical studies support two types of CHG application (ie, a 2% CHG-coated cloth or 4% CHG soap) using a standardized, timed process before hospital admission as an effective strategy for reducing the risk of postoperative surgical site infection.

Abstract
Background: In a previous randomised controlled trial (RCT) in hospital healthcare workers (HCWs), cloth masks resulted in a higher risk of respiratory infections compared with medical masks. This was the only published RCT of cloth masks at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Objective: To do a post hoc analysis of unpublished data on mask washing and mask contamination from the original RCT to further understand poor performance of the two-layered cotton cloth mask used by HCWs in that RCT.
Setting: 14 secondary-level/tertiary-level hospitals in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Participants: A subgroup of 607 HCWs aged ≥18 years working full time in selected high-risk wards, who used a two-layered cloth mask and were part of a randomised controlled clinical trial comparing medical masks and cloth masks.
Intervention: Washing method for cloth masks (self-washing or hospital laundry). A substudy of contamination of a sample of 15 cloth and medical masks was also conducted.
Outcome measure: Infection rate over 4 weeks of follow up and viral contamination of masks tested by multiplex PCR.
Results: Viral contamination with rhinovirus was identified on both used medical and cloth masks. Most HCW (77% of daily washing) self-washed their masks by hand. The risk of infection was more than double among HCW self-washing their masks compared with the hospital laundry (HR 2.04 (95% CI 1.03 to 4.00); p=0.04). There was no significant difference in infection between HCW who wore cloth masks washed in the hospital laundry compared with medical masks (p=0.5).
Conclusions: Using self-reported method of washing, we showed double the risk of infection with seasonal respiratory viruses if masks were self-washed by hand by HCWs. The majority of HCWs in the study reported hand-washing their mask themselves. This could explain the poor performance of two layered cloth masks, if the self-washing was inadequate. Cloth masks washed in the hospital laundry were as protective as medical masks. Both cloth and medical masks were contaminated, but only cloth masks were reused in the study, reiterating the importance of daily washing of reusable cloth masks using proper method. A well-washed cloth mask can be as protective as a medical mask.

Abstract
International consensus guidelines state that Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection in pre-pubertal children is always, or nearly always, sexually transmitted. A systematic literature review does not concur with this. N gonorrhoea was believed to solely sexually transmitted when first identified in the 1880s. However it became recognised that when the infection was introduced into children's institutions, it rapidly spread among pre-pubertal girls. The medical literature records over 40 epidemics involving about 2000 children in Europe and the United States. Communal baths, towels or fabric, rectal thermometers and caregivers hands were identified as means of transmission. Although sensitive to heat and drying, gonorrhoea may remain viable in pus on cloth for several days. Several unusual accidental transmissions are reported, often due to contamination from laboratory samples. Indirect transmission occurs in epidemics of conjunctivitis in third world rural populations. Spread of infection can occur via contaminated hands of infected caregivers. While all paediatric cases of gonorrhoea must be taken seriously, including contact tracking and testing, forensic medical examiners should keep an open mind about possible means of transmission. Doctors and lawyers need to be cognisant of the large body of literature demonstrating both sexual and non-sexual means of transmission of gonorrhoea in children.

Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus (SA) is a commensal bacterium and opportunistic pathogen commonly associated with humans and is capable of causing serious disease and death including sepsis, pneumonia, and meningitis. Methicillin-resistant SA (MRSA) isolates are typically resistant to many available antibiotics with the common exception of vancomycin. The presence of vancomycin resistance in some SA isolates combined with the current heavy use of vancomycin to treat MRSA infections indicates that MRSA may achieve broad resistance to vancomycin in the near future. New MRSA treatments are clearly needed. Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses that infect bacteria, commonly resulting in death of the host bacterial cell. Phage therapy entails the use of phage to treat or prevent bacterial infections. In this study, 12 phages were isolated that can replicate in human SA and/or MRSA isolates as a potential way to control these infections. 5 phage were discovered through mitomycin C induction of prophage and 7 others as extracellular viruses. Primary SA strains were also isolated from environmental sources to be used as tools for phage discovery and isolation as well as to examine the target cell host range of the phage isolates by spot testing. Primary isolates were tested for susceptibility to oxacillin in order to determine which were MRSA. Experiments were performed to assess the host range and killing potential of newly discovered phage, and significant reductions in bacterial load were detected. We explored the utility of some phage to decontaminate fomites (glass and cloth) and found a significant reduction in colony forming units of MRSA following phage treatment, including tests of a phage cocktail against a cocktail of MRSA isolates. Our findings suggest that phage treatment can be used as an effective tool to decontaminate human MRSA from both hard surfaces and fabrics.

Abstract
Cotton with superhydrophobic and superoleophilic properties had been successfully fabricated for application in the field of oil/water separation by the combination of SiO2 nanoparticles on cotton fiber surface and subsequent octadecyltrichlorosilane modification. The as-prepared cotton could be used to selectively absorb various common oils and organic solvents up to above 50 times of its own weight while repelling water completely. The absorbed oils were easily collected by a simple vacuum filtration, and the recovered cotton could be reused for several cycles while still keeping high absorption capacity. Moreover, the as-prepared cotton was simply spun into cloth, which not only could be tailored to the water-repellent clothing but also could be used in the oil/water separation filter system. The results presented in this work might provide a simple, low-cost and environment friendly approach for application in the field of water/oil separation.

Abstract
The present communication reports the topotactic conversion of NiCo2O4 nanowires array on carbon cloth (NiCo2O4 NA/CC) into NiCo2S4 NA/CC, which is used as an efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for water splitting with good durability and superior activity in 1.0 M KOH. This NiCo2S4 NA/CC electrode produces 100 mA cm(-2) at an overpotential of 305 mV for hydrogen evolution and 100 mA cm(-2) at an overpotential of 340 mV for oxygen evolution. To afford a 10 mA cm(-2) water-splitting current, the alkaline water electrolyzer made from NiCo2S4 NA/CC needs a cell voltage of 1.68 V, which is 300 mV less than that for NiCo2O4 NA/CC, and has good stability.
